Speed Into the Future: Why a POP Pt. 1
When we set out to build our Production Optimization Platform we knew that the mortgage industry had to be reimagined. This reimagining spanned from the borrower experience to operations to the underlying architecture.
We are excited to share this five-part journey into why we built a POP, with the first segment focusing on the importance of modern architecture.
The Industry Problem:
Traditional systems aren’t built to keep up with the speed and complexity of today’s lending environment. They’re rigid, hard to adapt, and they often frustrate the very people they’re meant to serve.
Borrowers expect answers quickly. Loan officers expect tools that don’t slow them down. And operations teams can’t afford to waste time re-keying data, switching tabs, or waiting for a system to catch up.
We needed an entirely new approach, and that is why we created our POP.
What Makes Our POP Different? (Let’s Get Technical!)
Under the hood, the architecture is modern and flexible. Charlie runs on lightweight services that are constantly monitored for performance.
- Containerized, auto-scaling, cloud-based infrastructure.
Charlie runs on a fully containerized architecture that automatically scales up or down based on real-time demand, ensuring consistent performance even during peak borrower activity or heavy team usage. - Database strategy optimized for concurrent reading and writing.
Our data model separates read and write operations so multiple users, and automated processes, can interact with the same loan file at the same time without conflict or delay. - Front-end rendering to minimize loading time.
The interface is designed to load quickly using standard web protocols, while also using WebSocket connections to push real-time updates into the browser, keeping every user in sync without needing to refresh the page.
So What? Why Does Modern Architecture Matter?
- Speed – 5 seconds here, 5 minutes there, it adds up. An initial estimate with a client doing 150 lpm showed more than 2+ FTE of savings purely in load times.
- Morale – employees want to spend their time adding value to a process, not slamming their keyboard in frustration every time the system lags.
- Efficiency – a fast platform clears the way for better workflows, quicker decisions, and more satisfied stakeholders, both internal and external.
We have designed our POP with the benefit of you and your borrowers in mind. Stay tuned for the rest of our series where we dive into the “why” of our incredible journey.
