When you spend energy automating steps that shouldn’t exist in the first place, you're not making progress, you're preserving inefficiency. Fixing bad processes tends to lock in complexity, anchoring your team to legacy habits and systems that drain time and introduce risk. Contrast that with building things correctly from the start. Doing it right means eliminating unnecessary steps, simplifying interfaces, and assigning the right work to the right people… just once. It’s a mindset shift.
